Essential Tools for Scientists: sleeping →
esstoosci:
Pascal recently discussed sleep, the first part in a series on how to build a successful and sustainable life in science (or maybe even a life in life). He first covered cultural attitudes towards sleep. The attitudes he’s observed are: sleep is for losers; at best, it’s a waste of time; great…

God, my love, my provider, all that I need
Mt 6:26;30 Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?…will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?

Taboo
Accountability is the responsibility to someone or for some activity. Many times, I see people in the community that feel ashamed of their struggles and refuse to open up to their household heads due to fear of judgement. Many are conscious of their “reputation” and so keeps all of his or her struggles locked up. But should this be the case? Jesus calls us to be humble, to confess and...

HE SAID, SHE SAID, ISAY: Coaching →
eesigh:
Many of the world’s greatest people had a coach of some sort. Some people who mentor or coach never get the spotlight themselves, yet work their whole lives in order to help someone else reach their potential. Basketball coaches can’t carry out the play themselves and once the action begins it is…

Are you on milk or solid food?
Hungry for God? Sure you are! If you didn’t have a spiritual appetite, you wouldn’t be reading these Good News Reflections. But what type of hunger do you have? Some people are satisfied with baby food. They want everything pureed for them, i.e., they want the truth to be plain and simple, clear-cut, black and white with no grey areas, nothing to chew on. This kind of faith is...

Ezekiel 36:21-27
“I will take you away from that world of sinfulness, because it’s foreign to your true nature, and I will bring you back into my kingdom, your real home.
“I will sprinkle purity (clean water) upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities. I will cleanse you from the muck of your idols, from everything that you hold dearer than your true God.
“I will remove your stony heart and give...
What is a GOOD shepherd?
He (or she) is caring. He protects his flock. He guides his sheep to safer pastures. He goes after the lost and finds them. He carries the weak ones over the rough spots. He fights off the wolves and defeats them with the power of God. Always alert to do his job well, he is closely connected to the Lord who empowers him.
Today’s first reading makes it clear how upsetting it is to the Lord ...
How to enter the kingdom of God
“Forgive me, Lord, and help me to identify all my bad habits, addictions, unloving ways, and worldly wisdom. With your gentle but persistent help, I will let go of my baggage and live more fully in your kingdom now and be ready for heaven when I die. Increase my desire to get rid of everything that does not belong to you. Amen!”

Sts. Martha and Mary
What a wonderful, wonderful homily today at d’Youville. Props to Deacon Mike. Sigh, I am so guilty of being such a Martha: always looking for things to do to feel productive and accomplished. Always keeping myself busy. I find it so hard to stay still and relax. I always feel guilty when I feel unproductive.
God’s definitely asking me to follow him, to pray so much more and to let God...
Discovering the yellow brick road
Taken from my Tuesday, August 25, 2009 Facebook note
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets...

Hearing God's Call
Five steps to discerning what God is calling us to do:
1. Pray, pray some more, and then pray even more.
2. Look at the details surrounding how you hear his voice.
3. Look at the talents God has given you.
4. Look at the needs around you.
5. Experiment and evaluate.

Levels of Prayer
I know YFC has taught different levels of prayer back then, where the “uber level” is where we raise our hands and jump for joy in praise for God. Although it did help us express our feelings for God, the concept never really rang true to me. I knew there were deeper levels. Today I found this.
Level 1 - Basic prayer: Traditional prayer and worship like the Rosary and the Mass....

So Toronto’s on Day 3 of a serious heat wave. Most of us complain in the winter time of the cold and can’t wait for the heat but this is a little much. My relatives in Taiwan used to ask me “Canada is such a cold country, who lives there??” in which case I would respond “Taiwan is such a hot…
